lake meltdown

Thursday we went for a walk around Lake Callhoun in Minneapolis. It was pretty warm out and the boys both melted down hard core after we ate our packed lunch. It was really beautiful around the lake before all of the screaming started. We drove home with Finn telling us he wasn't tired before falling forward asleep on his knees and Henry holding my hand to his face to keep from sobbing. Good times.

henry, daddy, and the light

We went on a man walk today. Just the dudes doing manly things like playing in fountains and eating Mexican food. Jesse and I filled our strollers with supplies and strapped in our boys for a little trip downtown. We took the train two stops down and then walked over the Broadway bridge to Jamison Square park where they have a fountain that Finn had played in before. Finn was tentative at first but joined the throng of kids splashing around. Henry had been completely worn out by the arduous trip over the bridge in the stroller and napped for the first part of the water time. After some head on collisions with other kids and a good soak we hopped the street car to 23rd Ave and got some food at Santa Fe. Henry ate his body weight in Carnitas and Finn snapped 30-40 pictures on the camera, mostly of cars. The picture above is one of Finn's creations at a new shop that Jesse wanted stop at. Apparently he didn't get the memo about this being a dude walk. People were already marking out their spots for the Rose Parade tonight as we took the street car back to the train and then headed back home. It was a good walk for us and the boys ended up both sleeping for three and half hours so they got nice and worn out too. Finn went for his first movie in the theatre with mommy and Henry and I watched the Eastern Conference close out game. He wanted Lebron to pull it off but I told him he had to be patient. I was right and Henry cried, he takes these games too personally.

a lovely day

This past weekend was beautiful in Portland and we were able to take advantage of it nicely. We were up and out of the house early Saturday morning all bundled up and wondering how we were going to get from just above freezing to 70*. We walked over to Pistils Nursery to get our starts for the vegetable garden. Back at the house we cleaned out the back beds and planted our future harvest. Henry ate as much dirt as he could get before we moved him away. By the time we had the plants in the ground it was already warming up nicely. We made a late breakfast and opened up all the windows. After the afternoon naps we set out to find all the "Go By______" signs in Portland. Kate is redoing the boys room for the 97,145th time this month and these phots figure prominently. We took the train one stop down then walked across the Broadway bridge where we saw the Go By Train sign, then into the Pearl where the Go By Streetcar is. We took a streetcar towards NW 23rd where the Go By Cab sign is at the Cab depot. We walked back and got some Gelatto before walking back across the bridge and back home. We were sidetracked though by a fountain that Finn needed to play in. It was such a nice day in the midst of the cold winter and you can see the pictures of the day on the Flickr page.

Henry doing a walkabout

Henry is experimenting with this walking thing. We had this walker toy in the side yard, one of the many treasures left by the family that owns this house. I think we would get along with them if for no other reason then we have a mutual love for this house. The song is You Have known by the pneumatics.

A walk awalk awalka

We went for a long walk Sunday and it was really great. If you ask Finn how it was he'll say "Pretty good." That is his answer for just about any question you ask him. He says it in such a nonchalant way too. We wandered through the fields of the sports complex across the way. Stopping to watch some Little league baseball, women's soccer, and the skater boys watched over by a line of parents in their S.U.V.s. We cut across the street to the Nike World Campus and meandered the bark trails. We walked up to Costco and had a lunch of pizza and frozen yogurt. We made our way back home through side trails of ducks and play grounds. Finn was in and out of the stroller a number of times on our 3 hour walk and played on 3 different playgrounds. Henry slept in the swaying hammock oblivious to the many rain showers and even hail. It was nice Portland day, and a great long walk around our new world.

One Two Three Walk with me

Finn is now doing a little walking on his own.
