Part of the system now

As many of you know as of right now I don't have a job and of the two jobs Kate has one doesn't pay at all and the other she only works about 10 hours a week at. With no insurance and not much income we have begun the process of applying for Hoosier Healthwise to make sure that Kate’s pregnancy and our baby is taken care of. The first place that we called was incredibly helpful and attentive but too far south so we passed up on them. We tried for weeks to get into see some one at a Hospital up North to get into the system so that Kate could start getting her prenatal care. We were transferred around so many times that we were coming back to a lot of the same people. We finally got an appointment to see someone and got started on the endless stack of paperwork. That was March 23 and they said the soonest we could see a DR was April 20! Based on their best guess Kate is 3 months along and it could be 4 months along before her first DR visit. Needless to say that was not OK with me. I spent that day calling every OBGYN in the greater Indianapolis area to see if they took Medicaid, to see if they were taking patients, and to see if we could get in. After hours on the phone and something like 50 phone calls we got an appointment to discuss our finances on March 30. This still wasn't a DR appointment but they said once we did that we could schedule the DR visit. We went in and filled out some more paper work ad got an appointment for Friday April 1 to get started with a Doc. We got a call April 1 telling us they didn't have enough people and can they reschedule for April 6. We went in yesterday and we felt like we were finally going to get taken care of. We filled out the medical history and Kate started her blood work. While having some blood drawn Kate blacked out and then threw up when she came to. She didn't have a chance to finish the tests because she was so nauseous and green. They asked her to come back in on Friday to finish up and read some of her earlier tests and then they scheduled another appointment for May 5. Another month! I walked Kate to the car to find that we were 5 minutes over our time and we had a parking ticket. Needless to say yesterday was a very discouraging day.
